Check out this new Windows 10 feature which will protect your files from ransomware!

Check out this new Windows 10 feature which will protect your files from ransomware!

In May this year, a ransomware called WannaCry started spreading and attacking through Europe. WannaCry grasped vulnerabilities in Windows OS, affecting a lot of companies and lacs of machines. Not very later, yet another ransomware named Petya attacked. This ransomware which disrupted big businesses and government organizations was first reported in Ukraine. However, it’s quickly spreading and attacking other countries.
Read on to find about what's a ransomware and how Windows 10 new feature will protect your files.

What’s a ransomware?
A ransomware is a type of software designed to block access to a computer system until a certain amount of money is paid - the payment is usually requested to be in bitcoins. It features unbreakable decryption. There  is a possibility that it may spread to other PCs that are connected via Local Network. Extorting money is usually the main objective of a ransomware.

Is India affected?
India was also one of the countries attacked by WannaCry. It can affect home users because they have no data backups and have a very little knowledge about cyber security. But it is unlikely that it will attack users at home, even so, one can never be too careful. It’s a good thing Windows 10 has taken care of your worries.

How will Windows 10 protect my files?
Windows 10 will be launching a new update in October called the Controlled Folder Access.
A user may access this option from Windows Defender Security Center, under the "Virus & Threat Protection" option.
The working of this feature isn’t all that difficult. Once you turn the Controlled Folder Access on, there exists a Default option which will protect all your files and documents. A user can also customize the settings by adding custom folders. Thus, the new Controlled Folder Access feature will shield certain files and folders from the reach of viruses and ransomware.

Since cyber crimes are becoming a huge problem of today’s world (and they are not going to stop anytime soon), it is important that students of AVCOE know about it’s know-how and to keep up with news regarding the same.

Engineers are the best of people. Life of an engineering student is an adventure matching the one where ‘Frodo Baggins’ goes on to in the movie ‘Lord of The Rings’.
Here are the 10 memes all engineering students can relate to.

Assignments and projects are an essential part of an engineering student and this image perfectly sums up how most of the engineers choose to complete an assignment.

Tony Stark!!

Programmers probably have the toughest job in the world. One small error and this happens..

Calculators are not just mere instruments. They are our friend, they are our family.

Bruce Wayne is a proud engineer.

Every physics pun matter, unless ...

Group projects, where a single person is dubbed as a group.

‘And now my work begins’, words every engineering student can relate to when the new semester begins. There are no weekends, holidays, etc. Sleep and food is all we have time for.

An accurate depiction of the night before D-Day.

One does not simply clear Engineering Drawing easily.

PlayStation VR: The next BIG thing in the gaming industry

Image result for PLAY STATION VR

‘Visual Reality’, has been on the scene for quite some time. Used to train pilots in early 2000s, this technology has now made way to common people’s home. Well, virtual reality is here in the sense that all of big names in VR have launched their VR platforms. Whether it’s here for good as an established and widely accepted product category remains to be seen.

VR is a fascinating way to put you somewhere else through the power of technology, using a headset and motion tracking to let you look around a virtual space as if you are actually there. It’s also been a promising technology for decades that’s never really caught on. That could change with the current wave of VR. Oculus has released the consumer- ready Rift, HTC and Valve have put out Steam-friendly Vive, Sony has launched the excellent PlayStation VR, Samsung recently added a separate controller to its Gear VR, and Google’s Daydream platform is just starting to emerge from its cardboard shell. We shall focus on the latest and the most promising one on the market in this segment, which is Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation VR.
Launched on October 13, 2016, PSVR was designed to be fully functional with PS4 console.
Sony has been working on head mounted tech since 2011.The biggest challenge for Sony has been to get people to demo the PSVR, according to a top marketing executive at Sony. You can only play proprietary titles on it, but a theater mode lets you play any PS4 game as if you were sitting in front of a large screen. This is one of the best qualities of the system. One of the biggest flaw of the system is that it requires an additional investment in order for it to function.
As of now PSVR is doing great in terms of sales with more than a million units sold till date. Sales are the biggest proof that the tech is widely liked by PS4 users.
Students can read and learn more about this in order to enhance their awareness about the ever growing Virtual Reality industry. Learning about it will open more avenues for them at various computer animation and entertainment companies. There are new jobs in this sector every passing month, with companies like Nvidia, Microsoft, Google, etc. investing heavily in R&D. Software engineers, hardware engineers, electronics and material engineers can all find a place in this industry. So if gaming and entertainment is a field that interests you, this is a golden opportunity to utilize your engineering skills into entertainment industry.
