An overview of engineering and its future scope

“Engineering” literally means “making things happen”. In a very basic sense, engineering is the practical application of science and mathematics to solve problems. Traditionally, engineering is about infrastructure.

In today’s world, engineering is acknowledged as a discipline that opens up opportunities and creates technology and products that help make our lives easier. Almost every aspect in our lives has somehow been influenced by engineers – the products created in factories; the buildings we live in; the water we drink; the computers we surf the net on; medical services and technologies we rely on; the appliances and vehicles. There is no limit to what engineers can do.
Every year around 3 lakh engineers pass out from top engineering colleges in Maharashtra.

Here are some reasons why you should consider pursuing engineering as a career:

1. Hands-on Work

As an engineer, you’ll most likely at some point get to get your hands dirty. If you like being hands-on and working with machines, electronics or even in labs, engineering is a great fit.

2. Plenty of career opportunities

There are plenty of career opportunities for engineering graduates to look forward to. Engineering isn’t just a single course focused on a single industry. There are specializations you can pursue depending on where your passion lies. It’s entirely up to you to decide and explore which field would make good use of your skills and talents.

3. Work in different departments

If you hold a particular engineering degree, that doesn’t mean you can’t transfer and work in a completely different one. Engineering graduates can work wherever they like regardless of their field of study.

4. Compensation

Its not secret that engineering jobs are some of the best paid positions even for those holding just a Bachelor’s degree. Most engineers approach a six-figure salary in their careers.

5. Opportunity to travel the world

There are engineering jobs all over the world. You can literally work wherever you desire or travel as you would like.

6. Make a difference

If you want to come home at the end of the day and feel like you have made a difference, most engineering professions provide a great avenue for helping other. So, whatever you care about the most, there will be some engineering involved.

Amrutvahini College of Engineering (AVCOE) is one of the best engineering college in Maharashtra. Established in 1983, it has been accredited three times by NBA, New Delhi and graded ‘A’ by NAAC and Government of Maharashtra. The institute provides a distinctive, excellence driven engineering education to groom future engineers and entrepreneurs.
Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering from one of the top colleges would certainly make a difference for your career in years to come.

Kotlin: The new language for developers

Any discussion you hear around yourself today will always either be about technology or will eventually lead to it. Its almost as if you cannot name human race without naming technology. And the strong supporting cast and crew behind this blockbuster are none other than the developers.

Developer or amateur, we all have some idea about programming languages and how they work. Either we have heard it from our coder friends or at some point during our careers or career building years we ourselves have tried (and failed) to learn the art of programming. However, there are those “chosen” few, who have that in-built flair in the mentioned field and who effortlessly write huge codes without a grumble.

So, to the developers out there, you obviously are aware of basic languages such as C, C++, Java and also some lesser known ones such as Python and Oracle.

Here’s an ode to the latest programming language: Kotlin
Kotlin is developed by a team from JetBrains programmers, the creators of IntelliJ Java IDE, based in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Kotlin is an open source, statically-typed programming language that runs on JVM (Java Virtual Machine) and android which combines the features of object oriented and functional programming.

It’s expressive, crisp and powerful but best of all it is interoperable or back compatible with Java. Meaning, you can use the same Java Libraries and also the program written in Kotlin can be converted to Java and vice versa. JetBrains provides simple but powerful Java to Kotlin converters and can generate Java and JavaScript from Kotlin code.

Until May 2017, the only supported languages for Android were Java and C++. Adding another feather to its cap is the recent verdict at Google I/O 2017, where Google announced official support for Kotlin on Android. Kotlin aims to bridge the gap of a missing modern language for Android platform.

When it comes to Kotlin vs. Java, the answer is simple. Kotlin codes are safer and more concise than their Java counterparts and since Kotlin and Java can coexist in Android apps, Kotlin is not only useful for new apps but also for updating existing Java apps.

For the experimenting and the curious kind, this is an entire new arena to explore.

Companies that are changing the outlook of technology

As was the case in the 90's, while monetary policy changed and tax reforms were likely to dominate the macroeconomic backdrop for equity markets and common folks, it was believed that technology will continue to be driven by its ability to increase productivity and disrupt the old economy. And as for today, technology is what drives the entire world.

It’s obvious that technology is all science and maths and not everyone will like to grasp what it brings to the world. For that, people with imagination and creativity come forth and bring a new curve to the technology with products and content which amuses mass audience and bridges the world more closely.

A Jovial outlook on Medha 2k18

In the monochrome life cycle of a student, which mainly is a cycle of eating, sleeping, attending lectures, and repeating, ‘College Fests’ shows a certain degree of fluctuations in the excitement levels of students. Why wouldn’t it? As the festive season slowly marches closer and closer with time, every student can taste the sweet scent of hard work; hard work of not only the students organizing it but the ones striving over their performing arts with incessant practices.

MEDHA is Sangamner’s largest cultural festival hosted by Amrutvahini College of Engineering's (AVCOE). The inauguration ceremony took place on 4th January 2018 in the presence of all the chief guests. The event was coordinated by Prof. G. B. Kale, managed by Prof. V.B. Dhumal and executed by Mr. A.B. Shinde.

This year, Medha brought to stage some amazing performances in Spot Poetry, Singing,Fashion Show, Instrument Playing, Skits, Yoga, GD and Debates. The dais had been decorated with distinguished guests. Prabhakar More, Pooja Bedi, Bhargavi Chirmule, Shyam Rajput and Achyut Godbole were the star attractors of the event.

Cultural festivals help to preserve our varied cultural heritage. As a whole, Cultural festivals give the opportunity to develop the qualities of mutual respect, love, communal harmony and national integration. We hope Medha remains a unique point in every student’s life where they can express their thoughts and share their creativity with everyone.

Tech Gap: An Uprising Problem

What comes to your mind when you hear “tech skills gap”? You think of skills traditionally associated with information technology firms like coding, software development, and network security management. If compared with hard skills, the gap in applied skills reaches across all sectors. This affects everyone from artists to healthcare workers to business professionals.

There’s a huge demand for workers with tech skills and it continues to soar up every day, across all industries. To better understand the problem and its solutions, consider the following five key points and the opportunities that this Tech Skills Gap offers:

1. THE GAP EXISTS ACROSS ALL INDUSTRIES

Tech skills aren't specific just to the technology sector, but it runs across every industry. The main aim of these essential skills includes the ability to use technology to benefit the organization. Many people lack the necessary skills. That's a gap many people don't anticipate, and it's also an amazing opportunity to learn new skills and hone the existing.

2. DEMAND OUTPACES SUPPLY

There are more than 500,000 computing jobs open across the nation, but less than 50,000 students graduated with a computer science background in 2016. And the main hub of the graduated ones was IT alone. And this is the same issue with other fields, such as healthcare and business.

A survey conducted amongst the industrial hub showed:
  • 62% of students coming out of school aren't prepared with the necessary tech skills
  • 11% agree that school is effective in meeting skill need
  • Three out of four employers feel that finding an employee with all job description requirements is rare

3. EDUCATORS MUST CREATE SOLUTIONS

Educators, institutions and industry advisers need to work together to create curriculums that meet today's demands. It's not only on the shoulders of employers and employees. This will likely include the movement toward an "anytime, anywhere" educational model to bring online and onsite opportunities together.

4. STUDENTS AND EMPLOYEES MUST TAKE INITIATIVE

As more and more business require workers with applied tech and latest hard skills, the present generation is tasked to keep up with the flow to avoid falling into that gap. Advancing technology doesn't allow anyone to become contented. For those who see the gap as an opportunity, it's a great time to learn new skills and sharpen existing ones.

We at Amrutvahini College of Engineering (AVCOE), provide a distinctive excellence driven engineering education that will groom future generations of engineers and entrepreneurs. We aim to create self-disciplined, physically fit, mentally robust and morally strong engineers and technocrats with a high degree of integrity and sense of purpose. We open a new window, “window of innovation” where we put technology at the core of our field and help our students to build that ‘tech gap’ which will help them to challenge the ever-advancing technology.
